For me the birds have to be sound and if they are then it's all management,
no contest. The reason I say this is because I have seen it time and again
good birds end up being bad, all fault of the trainer. Even though there are
mountains of information on training and feeding some still try ass backward
methods accompanied by fast track short cuts......never works.

Just to give you an example, had a fancier ask me while his birds were about
5 weeks old and not even settled yet when he should give them the feed up,
after how many weeks? Well what do you say to that? Another fed his birds
good feed from the start (as squeakers) and they were doing well....5-6 hrs.
But all of a sudden they started to fly only a couple of hours, if that. I
even told him they will cut the time drastically within the month and sure
enough like clockwork. You see what they were flying on was the energy from
the rich food not because they were fit. They were not building muscle and
stamina but fat and....the outcome is always predictable. So I am with you
training is everything providing the birds are half decent and good common
sense doesn't hurt either. I include myself in this as well. Whenever the
birds did not do well or discipline was an issue I can always go back to
something I did or didn't do as the cause. I would add patience as one of
the main ingredients to training as well as discipline.
